Clean

How the Bible Defines “Clean”: the concept of being “clean” has both physical and spiritual dimensions. Physically, it often refers to purity in terms of hygiene, diet, and ritual practices. Spiritually, being “clean” refers to moral and ethical purity, holiness, and being free from sin. The idea of cleanness is closely related to holiness and righteousness, where being clean is necessary for approaching God, worship, and living a life pleasing to Him.

Key Bible Scriptures

  1. Psalm 51:10
    • “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
    • Meaning: This verse highlights the importance of internal purity. A clean heart is essential for a righteous life and close relationship with God.
  2. John 15:3
    • “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.”
    • Meaning: Jesus teaches that spiritual cleanliness comes through His word, which cleanses us from sin and guides us in truth.
  3. Isaiah 1:16
    • “Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil.”
    • Meaning: God calls His people to wash themselves, symbolizing repentance and turning away from sin to live a life of purity.
  4. 1 John 1:7
    • “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
    • Meaning: Walking in God’s light brings spiritual cleanliness through the sacrificial blood of Jesus, which purifies us from sin.
  5. Matthew 5:8
    • “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
    • Meaning: Purity of heart, or spiritual cleanliness, is crucial for experiencing God’s presence and blessings.
