Commitments

In the Bible, commitment is often understood as a steadfast dedication to God, His commandments, and the promises made to Him and others. It involves loyalty, faithfulness, and a deliberate choice to follow God’s will. Commitment in the Bible is not just a verbal declaration but is demonstrated through consistent actions and obedience to God’s word.

Key Scriptures about Commitments

  1. Proverbs 16:3 – “Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”
    • This verse emphasizes the importance of entrusting our actions and plans to God, promising that He will guide and stabilize our thoughts and intentions.
  2. Psalm 37:5 – “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
    • Here, commitment is linked with trust in God, where dedicating one’s path to the Lord ensures His intervention and fulfillment of His promises.
  3. Matthew 22:37 – “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
    • This scripture calls for total commitment to God, involving all aspects of one’s being—heart, soul, and mind.
  4. Luke 9:62 – “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
    • This verse teaches about the necessity of unwavering commitment to following Christ, without turning back or being distracted.
  5. James 4:7 – “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
    • Commitment to God is also seen in submission to His will and resisting temptations, which leads to spiritual victory.
