Cursed

The Biblical Definition of “Cursed”

In the Bible, to be “cursed” generally means to be under divine judgment or condemnation. It often refers to being separated from God’s blessing and favor, experiencing hardship, or being doomed to destruction. Curses can be a consequence of sin, disobedience, or rebellion against God. In contrast, blessings are associated with obedience and favor from God.

Key Bible Scriptures

  1. Genesis 3:14
“And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.”

    • This verse speaks of the curse God placed upon the serpent after the Fall, symbolizing the consequences of sin.
  2. Deuteronomy 28:15
“But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:”

    • This verse introduces a list of curses that would befall the Israelites if they disobeyed God’s commandments.
  3. Jeremiah 17:5
“Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.”

    • This verse declares a curse on those who rely on human strength rather than trusting in God.
  4. Galatians 3:13
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:”

    • This New Testament verse explains how Christ became a curse for us to redeem us from the curse of the law.
  5. Malachi 3:9
“Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.”

    • This verse speaks of a curse on the people for withholding tithes and offerings from God.

Prayer Points with Scriptures

  1. Prayer for Deliverance from Generational Curses
    Scripture: Galatians 3:13
Prayer: “Heavenly Father, I thank You that through Christ, I am redeemed from every curse of the law. I break every generational curse in my life and my family, and I declare that we are free from the power of sin and death. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
  2. Prayer for Trust in God Alone
    Scripture: Jeremiah 17:5
Prayer: “Lord, I choose to put my trust in You and not in human strength. Keep my heart close to You, and help me to rely on Your power and wisdom in all things. Let me never depart from Your ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
  3. Prayer for Obedience to God’s Commandments
    Scripture: Deuteronomy 28:15
Prayer: “Father, I ask for the grace to obey Your commandments and follow Your statutes. Help me to live a life that is pleasing to You, so that I may walk in Your blessings and avoid the consequences of disobedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
  4. Prayer for Repentance and Restoration
    Scripture: Malachi 3:9
Prayer: “Lord, I repent for any way in which I have withheld from You what is rightfully Yours. I ask for Your forgiveness and seek to restore what I have failed to give. Open the windows of heaven over my life, and let Your blessings flow abundantly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

These scriptures and prayer points can guide your reflections and prayers as you seek to understand and overcome the concept of curses in a biblical context.
