Eternal Life

How does the Bible Defines Eternal Life: In the Bible, eternal life is primarily defined as the life that God grants to believers through faith in Jesus Christ. It is not just an unending existence, but a quality of life that is in relationship with God, characterized by knowing Him and His Son, Jesus Christ. Eternal life is also the promise of resurrection and life in the presence of God forever, free from death, sin, and suffering.

Key Bible Scriptures:

  1. John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

    • This verse is central to the Christian faith, emphasizing that belief in Jesus Christ is the key to eternal life.
  2. John 17:3

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

    • Eternal life is defined as knowing God and Jesus Christ, which implies an intimate and personal relationship with the Creator.
  3. 1 John 5:11-13

“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

    • Assurance of eternal life is given to those who believe in Jesus Christ.
  4. Romans 6:23

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

    • Eternal life is described as a gift from God, contrasted with the consequences of sin, which is death.
  5. John 10:28

“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”

    • Jesus assures believers of their security in Him and the promise of eternal life.
  6. John 5:24

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

    • Eternal life begins the moment one believes in Jesus and passes from death to life.
