Transgressions

The Biblical Definition of Transgression: In the Bible, a transgression refers to the act of violating God’s law or commands. It signifies a rebellion or breaking of divine instructions. The word “transgression” is often associated with sin, iniquity, and disobedience.

Key Scriptures about Transgressions

  • 1 John 3:4 – “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” This verse clearly defines transgression as breaking God’s law.
  • Psalm 32:1 – “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” Shows the mercy of God in forgiving transgressions.
  • Proverbs 28:13 – “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” Encourages confession and repentance from transgressions.
  • Isaiah 53:5 – “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Highlights that Jesus suffered for our transgressions to bring redemption.
  • Micah 7:18 – “Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.” Shows God’s great mercy in pardoning transgressions.

Prayer Points Based on Scriptures

  1. Prayer for Forgiveness (Psalm 32:1) Heavenly Father, I confess my transgressions before You. Thank You for Your mercy and forgiveness. Cover my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  2. Prayer for Strength to Overcome Transgression (1 John 3:4) Lord, help me walk in obedience to Your law and not transgress against Your will. Strengthen me by Your Holy Spirit to live a righteous life. Amen.
  3. Prayer for Repentance and Restoration (Proverbs 28:13) Father, I repent of every transgression I have committed. Grant me the grace to turn away from sin and walk in Your ways. Let me find mercy in Your sight. Amen.
  4. Prayer of Gratitude for Christ’s Sacrifice (Isaiah 53:5) Thank You, Jesus, for bearing my transgressions on the cross. By Your stripes, I receive healing and redemption. Help me to live a life worthy of Your sacrifice. Amen.
  5. Prayer for God’s Mercy (Micah 7:18) O Lord, You delight in mercy and forgive iniquity. Have mercy on me and cleanse me from every transgression. May I always find grace before You. Amen.

    • This verse speaks of the blessing of God’s forgiveness for those who repent.
  2. Psalm 32:5 – “I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.”
    • Emphasizes the importance of confession and receiving God’s forgiveness.
  3. Psalm 51:1 – “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.”
    • A plea for God’s mercy and cleansing from transgression.
